MATERIALS

Naturally soft, not sprayed soft.

Most activewear begins as oil. Polyester is plastic, spun into yarn and finished with chemistry until it feels like something you would want against your skin.

Ours begins in the sea.

Alginate is spun from brown seaweed. Cool, smooth, with a weight polyester never has and naturally UV protective. It has been used in wound dressings for decades - it's no stranger to taking care of our skin.

It also loses strength when wet. Past ten percent the cloth will not survive washing. Ours carry 7.3 to 10 — the most each one can hold. We print the number rather than say made with seaweed.

The rest is modal from beech, cotton, and the least elastane the garment needs.

DESIGN

By subtraction.

Six shapes. One cloth across four of them, by choice. The pieces flow together, and cutting from one cloth means less fabric left over.

The tee was tried in the 305 gsm and didn't work. Too much fabric for something meant to feel like nothing. It runs lighter, with the tank.

The rest was subtraction. No zips, snaps, eyelets, metal. No embroidery, no printed logo. Waist and ankle bands cut from the garment’s own cloth, not elastic. A gusset. Volume released through the side seam and the back, so the front stays flat.

One mark outside: a woven tape, nine millimetres. The name appears once, inside.

Colours that do not get old. Shapes we will not restyle. Made to belong to the same wardrobe, year after year.

OUR COMPASS

Four points of kindness.

Material, design and making are usually decided by people who never meet, on a calendar with not much room for reflection - or kindness.

The sea. The fibre comes out of the water. Nothing harsh goes back in.

The land. Forests and fields. Nothing drilled out of the ground.

Our skin. No chemistry against it. The softness is the sea’s and the land’s, not a finish.

The hands that made this. The other three are only true if this one is. How we treat each other is what holds them up.
